Venture capital sounds so mellifluous, the mere words conjuring visions of sublime cash infusions and firmed-up bottom lines. But it ain’t easy to get. So here’s recognition for some in the region who did–recently:
- It’s not based in the Bay Area, but Jay Rosen’s NewAssignment.net got some kablingi from Craig Newmark before the $100K Reuters kicked in.
- Kleiner Perkins forked over some $21 million for Redwood City-based PeakStream, which specializes in computing for “computationally intense applications.”
- Hayward’s Singulex rec’d $10.5 in Series C funding from H. Fisk Johnson’s Fisk Venture and Prolog Ventures. The firm is working on what amounts to a molecule detector, which is way off our beat, except that it could be used to locate the brains of several world leaders.
- Likewise, San Jose’s nanotech firm Intermolecular got over $26 million in Series C; not all sources known, but they include CMEA, Redpoint Ventures, and U.S. Venture Partners.
- Campbell’s mobile access enabler SoonR raised about six big ones from Intel Capital and Clearstone Venture Partners.
- And let’s not forget Canesta of Sunnyvale, maker of gnarly chips for 3D measurement apps–Honda Strategic Ventures this time, but previous investors include JPMorgan and Carlyle Venture Partners.
- I believe we already mentioned that LiveWorld got cozy with WPP and $2 million in little green friends.
